Commit to a Committee!

There are several ways to get involved with the KES PTO! Listed below is a description of each PTO committee and their respective Chair(s). Please indicate on the reply card or email us at kespto@gmail.com which committee you'd like to join or even chair. Committees noted with  'PT' are recommended for moms and dads with toddlers and those with 'PW' are recommended for moms and dads that work during the day.

 


After School Activities (ASA) (PT, PW)

This is a terrific after school enrichment program for our children. Volunteers are needed for selecting courses, hiring teachers, registering students and making sure courses run smoothly. Volunteers are also needed to help the coordinator with attendance and dismissal between 3:30 & 4:45 after school. Chairs: Debbie Brandwein, Lynn Siegel and Kim Latham.

Buildings and Grounds (PT, PW)

This committee plants flowers and oversees clean up day in the spring to support beautification of the KES grounds. They make recommendations to the PTO and Administration regarding improvements. Chairs: Lynda Archer and Laura Beth Gilman

Caring and Sharing (PT, PW)

Provides simple assistance such as making a meal, running errands or providing transportation for members of the KES community in need. Volunteers are called on an "as needed" basis. Chairs: Nathalie Dwyer and Jennifer Moulton

Chalkboard (PT, PW)

Volunteers are needed to collect articles, photos & other school-worthy information for "quarterly" newsletter and to prepare electronic file for district printer for a desktop-publishing application. Chairs: Celeste Potash and Janine Megna


Class Parents (PT, PW)

An invaluable resource for classroom teachers. Responsibilities of class parents include, organizing volunteers for classroom activities, attending all PTO meetings, managing the Halloween Fair class booth and securing chaperones for class field trips. Chairs: Donna Glassman, Charity Brotmann, Nancy Laemle and Amy Minasian 

 Class Pictures September 29th, Monday

Volunteers are needed to help organize students for class and individual photos.  This is a fun day for volunteers with lots of interaction with the kids.  2 hour shifts are most helpful and we need parents from 9:15 to 2:00. Chairs: Heather Athanasiou, Leslie Root Cohen and Lisa Kramer

Community Service (PT, PW)

A committee devoted to involving KES in community service projects. Chair: Kevin Corbett.

Directory (PT, PW)

This committee is in charge of creating, proofreading and distributing the annual Student Directory. Chair: Alexandra Pappas

Doing the Write Thing

A bi-annual, day-long event devoted to 4th and 5th graders learning writing  from experts in the community. Volunteers will be responsible for contacting participants and the media, scheduling students in workshops, and providing a luncheon for guest speakers. Chairs: Kate Galligan, Marisol Kaminski, Moira Thielking and Barb Chintz

Edible Garden (PW, PT)

The KES Edible Garden is an educational organic garden located outside the Dining Hall. Volunteers are needed to maintain garden and help children with planting and harvesting activities. Chairs: Margi Corsello and Christine Schaaf

Education Resource Fund (ERF) (PW/PT)

ERF works directly with the classroom teachers and Assistant Principal to explore and schedule field trips, classroom enrichment activities and assemblies. ERF is the largest funded committee of the PTO with an annual budget of approximately $25,000. Chairs: Deborah Healy-Siedlitz and Kim Latham

Environmental Committee  (PW/PT)

In this committee we will be learning together how to create a more environmentally friendly and sustainable learning environment for our children. Chairs: Nisa Geller and Kathi Fay

Fall & Spring Book Fairs (PW) Nov& May

The Fall and Spring Book Fairs offer a wide variety of both adult and children's titles for purchase. Volunteers are needed to work at the fair during the day to help children select items, collect money, fill orders and organize displays. Chairs: FallSue Rukaniec and Tricia Padian, SpringCyndi Mallon and Christine Young

Fifth Grade Fundraising (PT, PW)

Coordinate fundraising programs to raise money for fifth grade end of year activities. Our first event is a car wash on Saturday, September 6th. Chairs: Midge Iorio and Rima Marschke

K.E.S. Chronicle (PT, PW)

Children in grades 1 through 5 have the opportunity to submit entries to The KES Chronicle. Volunteers help organize student work, print and distribute. Chairs: Jennifer Llewellyn and Jude Blundell Watson

Greenhouse (PT, PW)

Volunteers needed to help set up and maintain the Greenhouse. The greenhouse was built, and is funded and maintained using PTO funds. Chair: Cathy Clare

Halloween Fair (PT, PW) October 25, Sat.

One of the PTO's major fundraising events and fun for the entire family. Volunteers are needed to decorate the gym on the Friday before the fair, be involved the day of the fair at ticket, raffle and prize booths, and snack bar. Volunteers are also needed for clean up after the fair. Chairs: Mary Foynes Gaza, Chrystine Vance-Homer and Michelle Holbrook

Holiday Boutique (PT, PW) Dec 12, Friday

Plan, invite vendors, organize and staff the annual Holiday Boutique evening. Chairs: Eva Kelly, Amy Baker and Jocelyn Kester

Holiday Sharing Drive (PW)

This committee organizes a food and gift drive over the Thanksgiving and December holidays for local families in need. Volunteers are needed to wrap gifts on the annual Wrap Night (December 4, Thursday). Chairs: Marisol Kaminski, Midge Iorio and Jen Dembo

Holiday Shoppe (PT)

This committee plans and staffs the annual Holiday Shoppe, which offers low-cost gifts for family and friends that the children can buy at lunchtime during November and December.  Chair: Kim Maloof

Hospitality (PT, PW)

Calling all bakers! Provide refreshments at PTO day and evening functions. Chair: Lyn Ivey and Susan Shaw

Innisbrook Drive (PT)

Our annual wrapping paper sale and the most lucrative fundraiser for the PTO. Held in early September, volunteers are needed to help sort orders. Chairs: Carthy Henry and Susan Wilkes

Library Volunteers

Volunteers work in the library for 1 hour every week or every other week assisting the librarian with special projects, bulletin boards, library displays and shelving. A great way to get involved without committing a lot of time. Chair: Lisa Bart 


Parenting Talks (PW,PT)

This committee has the responsibility of presenting a series of Parenting Talks on family focused issues to benefit KES parents and the community.  Responsibilities include sourcing speakers, generating interest and coordinating the events. Chairs: Susanna Carlson and Nathalie Dwyer

Parents as Reading Partners (PT, PW)

PARP runs during March and is designed to encourage parents and children to read together. Volunteers are needed to help in planning the various events, to prepare student certificates and for coordinating the annual "Starry Story Night" (March 27, Friday) Chair: Enid Linden

Photography (PT, PW)

Manage securing and archiving pictures of students and teachers for publicity, the yearbook and The Chalkboard. Chair: Jeanne Robinson

Publicity (PT, PW)

This committee prepares promotional articles and press releases about KES events for local newspapers, radio and television. Chairs: Nancy Laemle and Alex Pappas

School Store (PT)

The school store sells inexpensive school supplies and KES PTO apparel to students at lunch in the dining room. Volunteers are needed to work in the store throughout the year. Chair: Kim Maloof

School Supply Packs  (PT)

A great convenience for parents, this committee organizes the purchase and delivery the School Packs. Chairs: Amy Heath and Donna Glassman

Staff Recognition Luncheon (PT, PW)

Coordinates annual luncheon given by the PTO in the late spring. The luncheon is the PTO's way of thanking faculty and staff for their efforts during the year. Volunteers are needed to prepare dishes, set up, serve and clean-up. Chairs: Sherrie Goldstein and Susan Shaw


Spring Fling (PW, PT) April 17, Friday

The PTO's annual spring fundraiser offers circus themed family entertainment, "Under the KES Big Top."  A silent auction and raffle baskets raise funds.  Volunteers needed to help the committee organize the event during the months of March and April.  Additional volunteers needed at the event to set up, staff booths, and bake. A fun evening for the entire family! Chairs: Stephanie Crane, Celeste Potash,  and Nicole Stumbo

Video Archiving (PW, PT)

Video events at the school and create a lending library for parents.  Chair: Open 

Volunteers(PW)

Volunteers are needed to assist teachers in the classroom and help prepare materials for students. They can sign up for a regularly scheduled time or on an as-needed basis. Chairs: Gale Kaseguma and Traci Stark

Webmaster (PT, PW)

Update and maintain www.kespto.com to ensure accurate and timely information is readily available. Chairs: Joe DeCicco and Alex Pappas

Welcoming (PW, PT)

This committee welcomes new families to KES through summer correspondence, telephone calls and personal greetings at the Welcome Back Party in September. They also give school tours during the year to incoming families. Chairs: Nathalie Dwyer and Christine Schaaf

Yearbook (PW/PT)

Assist in putting together the KES Yearbook.  Solicit and take photos, write text and lay out pages. Volunteers are also needed to handle yearbook sales. Chairs: Rasha Kaplan, Bonnie Berton, Karen Horan, Cyndi Mallon and Betty Seraita
