Commit to a Committee!
There are several ways to get involved with the KES
PTO! Listed below is a description of each PTO committee and their respective
Chair(s). Please indicate on the reply card or email us at kespto@gmail.com which committee you
would like to join or even chair. Committees noted with 'PT' are recommended
for moms and dads with toddlers and those with 'PW' are recommended for moms
and dads that work during the day.
After School Activities (ASA) (PT, PW)
ASA,
which includes the PTO run Language Activities program, is a terrific after
school enrichment program for our children. Volunteers are needed for selecting
courses, hiring teachers, registering students and making sure courses run
smoothly. Volunteers are also needed to help the coordinator with attendance
and dismissal. The Language Activities
program is a terrific before or after school enrichment program. Volunteers are also needed to help with
arrival before school as well as after school.

Art Room Volunteers (PW)
Volunteers
are needed to assist the art teachers in the classroom. Volunteers are asked to
sign up for regularly scheduled times.

Book
Fairs (PW)
The Fall and Spring Book Fairs offer a wide variety of both
adult and children's titles for purchase. Volunteers are needed to work at the
fairs during the day to help children select items, collect money, fill orders
and organize displays. Volunteers are also needed to set up and take down the
fairs.

Caring and Sharing (PT, PW)
Provides simple assistance such as making a meal,
running errands or providing transportation for members of the KES community in
need. Volunteers are called on
an "as needed" basis.

Chalkboard (PT, PW)
Volunteers
are needed to write articles or collect photos for the school newsletter.

Class Parents (PT, PW)
An invaluable resource for classroom teachers. Responsibilities of class parents include,
organizing volunteers for classroom activities, attending all PTO meetings,
managing the Halloween Fair class booth and securing chaperones for class field
trips.

Class Pictures October 19th
Volunteers
are needed to help organize students for class and individual photos. This is a
fun day for volunteers with lots of interaction with the kids. 2 hour shifts
are most helpful and we need parents from 9:15 to 2:00.

Community
Gardens and Greenhouse (PW, PT)
The KES Edible
Garden is an educational
organic garden located outside the Dining Hall. The Butterfly Garden,
surrounding the flagpole in front of KES, provides a habitat for the
butterflies the raised by the third grade. The KES Greenhouse was built, and is
funded and maintained using PTO funds. Volunteers are needed to help children
with planting and harvesting activities in the Greenhouse and Gardens and to maintain
the Gardens.

Compact Team
The School Based Compact Team (SBCT) at KES includes the
principal and the assistant principal plus four (4) parents, three (3)
teachers, one (1) support staff member, and one (1) community member each
selected by his/her representative constituency by way of a process developed
by that constituency. This decision making group meets in open session on a
regular basis to address issues related to improving student educational
outcomes. Meeting times are posted in the PTO Newsletter Chalkboard.
Directory (PT, PW)
This
committee is in charge of creating, proofreading and distributing the annual
Student Directory. Volunteers are needed to help sell directories and fill
orders.

Enrichment Committee (PW/PT)
The
Enrichment Committee works directly with the classroom teachers and Assistant
Principal to explore and schedule field trips, classroom enrichment activities
and assemblies.

Environmental Committee (PW/PT)
In
this committee we will be learning together how to create a more
environmentally friendly and sustainable learning environment for our children.

Fifth Grade Fundraising (PT, PW)
Coordinate fundraising programs to raise money for fifth grade end
of year activities.

Halloween Fair (PT, PW) October 29th
One
of the PTOs major fundraising events and fun for the entire family. Volunteers
are encouraged to help the committee organize the event during September and
October. Volunteers are needed to decorate the school on the Friday evening before
the fair, staff the ticket, raffle, game and prize booths and snack bar day of
the fair and for clean up after the fair. Anyone interested in getting in the
Halloween spirit early and help in planning, please contact one of the chairs.

Holiday Boutique/ Holiday Shoppe (PT, PW)
Plan,
invite vendors, organize and staff the annual Holiday Boutique evening. This
committee also plans and staffs the annual Holiday Shoppe, which offers
low-cost gifts for family and friends that the children can buy. Events are
scheduled for November and December.

Holiday Sharing Drive (PW)
This
committee organizes a food and gift drive over the Thanksgiving and December
holidays for local families in need. Volunteers are needed to wrap gifts on the
annual Wrap Night.

Hospitality (PT, PW)
Calling
all bakers! Provide refreshments at PTO day and evening functions.

Innisbrook Drive (PT)
Our annual wrapping paper sale and the most lucrative
fundraiser for the PTO. Held in early September, volunteers are needed to help sort orders.

This
committee works with administration and PTO Executive Board to identify areas
to improve the KES building and surrounding grounds.

KES PTO Chronicle (PT, PW)
Children
in grades K through 5 have the opportunity to submit entries to The KES PTO Chronicle.
Volunteers help organize student work, coordinate printing and distribution

Library Volunteers
Volunteers
work in the library for 1 hour every week or every other week assisting the
librarian with special projects, bulletin boards, library displays and
shelving. A great way to get involved without committing a
lot of time.

Parenting
Talks (PW, PT)
This
committee presents various Parenting Talks on family focused issues to benefit KES
parents and the community and coordinate the Transition to Middle School
Parenting Talk for the outgoing 5th grade parents. Responsibilities
include sourcing speakers, generating interest and coordinating the events.

Parents as Reading Partners (PARP) (PT, PW)
PARP
runs during March and is designed to encourage parents and children to read
together. Volunteers are needed to help in planning the various events, to
prepare student certificates and for coordinating the annual "Starry Story
Night."

This
committee prepares promotional articles and press releases about KES events for
local newspapers, radio and television.

School
Supply Packs (PT)
A
great convenience for parents, this committee organizes the purchase and
delivery of the School Supply Packs.

Spring Time Family Square Dance (PW, PT)
Volunteers needed to help the committee organize the event during the
months of March and April. Additional volunteers needed at the event to set up
and bake. A fun evening for the entire family!

Spring Into Parents Night Out (PW, PT)
NEW to KES for the 2011-2012 school year, this committee will organize
and run a Dinner Dance with music and dancing throughout the night.at a local country club or restaurant. The event will be topped off with a silent
auction.

Staff Recognition Luncheon (PT, PW)
Coordinates
annual luncheon given by the PTO in the late spring. The luncheon is the PTO's
way of thanking faculty and staff for their efforts during the year. Volunteers
are needed to prepare dishes, set up, serve and clean-up.

Update
and maintain www.kespto.com to ensure accurate and timely information is
readily available.

Welcoming (PW, PT)
This
committee welcomes new families to KES through summer correspondence, telephone
calls and personal greetings at the Welcome Back Party in September. The
committee is responsible for arranging school tours during the school year to
incoming/prospective families, as well as at the New Family Orientation and the
Kindergarten Bus Run. They also are responsible for pairing all new families to
KES with a veteran KES family. They
need volunteers to serves a Buddy Families and give tours.

Wellness Committee Representative (PW, PT)
Wellness
Committee Representative is KES representative on the KLSD Wellness
Committee. The WCR will provide reports
to the PTO General Membership on the KLSD Wellness Committee initiatives and
will request feedback from the KES PTO General Membership when needed and/or
requested.

Assist
in putting together the KES yearbook. Volunteers are needed to take photos,
write text, create copy and handle yearbook sales.
