The PTO Language Activities Committee (LAC) is pleased to once again offer a selection of Spanish, French and Chinese classes.

Our teachers are carefully chosen for their expertise and experience. We are happy to have Jacquline Zerrate returning to teach Spanish and French, Marianna Canelo returning to teach Spanish and Peiling Liu returning to teach Chinese.

In order to promote continuity in learning a language, we are conducting registration now for the full year (both Fall 2009 and Spring 2010 sessions).   Classes will start September 29, 2009.

Due to a large number of applicants, if a class is over-subscribed, students will be chosen by lottery. Even though we will do our best to accommodate as many children as we can, we ask for your understanding.

Morning classes will begin at 8 am and children will be dismissed directly to class at 8:55 am. You must escort your child to the language classroom and sign the attendance sheet. Please stay with your child if the instructor has not arrived yet. The office staff is not responsible for children in the building before school starts.

We look forward to another exciting and enriching season!

Program Information and Procedures

  1. Classes begin Tuesday, September 29, 2009.
  2. The total cost for the full year (both Fall 2009 and Spring 2010 sessions) is $230.  You may pay $230 in full at this time or, if you prefer, you may pay $115 now and $115 in January.
  3. Registration forms and payment are due no later than 4:00 p.m. on Friday September 18, 2009.
  4. A separate check is required for each student and class. Please make checks out to KES PTO.
  5. Please send your registration form and check via backpack mail to the PTO mailbox in the main office.
  6. If financial assistance is needed, please contact Barbara Milone, KES Social Worker at 763-7746 or bmilone@klschools.org.
  7. Students will be placed according to whether they are returning to the language program for continuation of a particular language to which they have already had some exposure, or if they are a new student.  Please indicate on your registration form whether your child is a new or returning student and your first, second and third choice of day and time for a class.
  8. When registration is complete in September, you will receive a confirmation of your registration for the entire year (both Fall 2009 and Spring 2010 sessions) and notified which day and time class your child was placed in.  If classes are over-subscribed we will attempt to add additional classes. You will be notified by phone if we were not able to accommodate your child.
  9. Once your childs class has been confirmed, please send a note to your childs teacher informing him or her that your child will be participating in the PTO Language Activities program, on which day and the time. Please feel free to use the attached form.
  10. For afternoon classes, please send an extra snack for your child to eat while attendance is being taken in the cafeteria.
  11. Morning Classes start at 8 am. Please use the Kindergarten side door and escort your child to the classroom and sign them in. The instructor will dismiss your child to their regular teachers at 8:55 am. Afternoon classes will start at 3:30 pm and dismissal will be from the gym at 4:30 pm. Please be on time for pick up!
  12. Children in afternoon classes will be released only to those you have listed on the registration form unless you send a permission note. If someone not listed will be picking up your child, send the note to the attention of Pat McGinn, the afternoon Program Facilitator, via backpack mail.
  13. Any day that your child attends school but will not be staying for his or her afternoon PTO Language Activities class, you must also send a note to Pat McGinn, through backpack mail.
  14. PTO Language Activities afternoon classes are not held on early dismissal days. Morning classes are.  No classes are held when school is closed.
  15. In case of inclement weather, check the Katonah-Lewisboro School District website, www.klschools.org, or listen to WHUD 100.7 FM. Classes canceled due to inclement weather, or for any other reason, will be rescheduled at the end of the program if possible.
