WINTER / SPRING 2009 CATALOGUE AND ENROLLMENT INFORMATION

1.  Registration begins on January 6 and ends on January 9 by backpack mail, only.  Registration forms received after January 9 cannot be accepted.

  1. This session will run for 10 weeks and will begin the week of January 20, 2009.

  1. We will continue to make every attempt to assure placement in your childs first choice of enrichment activity, but due to class size limits, some classes do close out.  Please get your forms in as early as possible during the registration period.

  1. A separate check is required for each class that you register for.  For example, if you have 3 children signing up for 2 classes each, you must submit 6 separate checks.

  1. Prior to the first day of your childs after school activity, please send in a note to his/her teacher informing her that your child will be participating in the program.  Please list all classes and days of the week he/she will be attending.  Failure to do this may cause your child to be sent home inadvertently.

  1.  Pick-up time is at 4:40, sharp.  Please be prompt!!

Dear Parents,

The After School Activities Committee is pleased to offer a ten-week program to the students of Katonah Elementary School for the Winter/Spring of 2009. Our goal is to offer an enriching program with a wide range of subjects not offered during the school day.

Program teachers are carefully chosen for their expertise and experience from some of the areas leading arts, sciences, athletic, and educational centers.

Classes begin on Tuesday, January 20, 2009.  All classes cost $115.  Financial aid is  available through the schools social worker, Barbara Milone, 763-7746.

Please read the registration instructions carefully before proceeding with registration. Early registration will improve chances of enrollment in your childs first choice of class.  Registration forms will be accepted by backpack mail, only, beginning on January 6, 2009.  All forms will be picked up at the school office each day of registration.  This will ensure fairness, and we will do our best to enroll each child in his/her first or second choice of class.

The deadline for registration forms is 3:00 p.m. on Friday, January 9, 2009.   Please send your registration form and check via backpack mail to the PTO mailbox in the main office.  Any registration forms received after this day will not be accepted.

Pat McGinn will be Program Facilitator and is responsible for the safety of the children from the time they arrive in the cafeteria until they are dismissed from the Gym.   The success of the program also depends on having parents on duty each day to help take attendance, supervise and assist Pat to safely direct arrival and dismissal.  As we have a later dismissal time this year, all after-school activities will begin at 3:40 p.m. and end at 4:40 p.m.

All classes are 60 minutes.   You must park ONLY in designated parking areas. Parking around the circle prevents traffic from flowing smoothly and creates a dangerous situation for the children at dismissal. In case of inclement weather, check the Katonah-Lewisboro School District website, www.klschools.org, or listen to WHUD 100.7 FM and follow the schools early dismissal procedure.  Classes canceled due to inclement weather will be rescheduled at the end of the program if possible. All classes are canceled on a scheduled early dismissal day.

Please note:  The After-School Activities schedule will be posted on our KES PTO website.  The online data will be available to you at all times!

We look forward to another exciting and enriching season!

Program Procedures

  • PRIOR TO THE FIRST DAY OF YOUR CHILDS AFTER-SCHOOL ACTIVITY, please send ONE note to your childs teacher informing him or her that your child will be participating in the program for the session.  IF YOUR CHILD PARTICIPATES IN MORE THAN ONE ACTIVITY, PLEASE SEND ONE NOTE FOR EACH.

  • Children will be escorted to the dining hall at school dismissal.

  • Please send an extra snack for your child to eat while attendance is being taken and instructors arrive.

  • All Classes will start at 3:40 PM.

  • Morning kindergartners should plan to arrive at 3:30, 10 minutes before their class. Please walk your kindergartner to the dining hall and check them in with the Program Facilitator or a parent volunteer at the front table.

  • In the event that an instructor is ill, the class will be conducted by an appropriate substitute or will be canceled and made up later in the semester.

  • If you have a need to contact someone please e-mail Lynn Siegel at siegel.lynn@gmail.com.  This is the fastest way to reach her.

Dismissal:

  • Children will be dismissed through the GYM at 4:40.

  • Children will be released only to those whom you have listed on the registration form.  If someone else will be picking up your child, you must send a note to the attention of the Program Facilitator, Pat Mc Ginn, for that day.

  • Do not go to your childs classroom. Instructors are not permitted to dismiss children.

  • Please arrive on time and park only in designated parking areas

YOU MUST SEND A NOTE TO THE ATTENTION OF THE PROGRAM FACILITATOR THROUGH BACKPACK MAIL IF YOUR CHILD

ATTENDS SCHOOL BUT WILL NOT BE ATTENDING THEIR AFTER SCHOOL CLASS.

We take our responsibility for your childs safety very seriously.  If your child is expected at After School Activities but does not attend, we consider them missing and together with the office staff, classroom teachers, and transportation department we begin an urgent search until your child is located.

How to Register

Enter the class you most want to take in the First Class - 1st Choice space. Because each class has a maximum enrollment, certain classes may be over-enrolled on the first round of registration. When that happens, we use a lottery system to fill the class.  If that class is over-enrolled and you do not secure a place through the lottery, you will automatically be placed in your First Class - 2nd Choice. This method has proven to be very successful in the past as each child is placed in either his first or second choice. To register for a second class, fill out the Second Class - 1st Choice box the same way.

1.        Please fill out a separate registration form for each child. Your child will be scheduled for only one class per day.

2.       The cost per class is $115.00.

3.       If financial or other assistance is needed, please contact the KES social worker, Barbara Milone, 763-7746.

4.       The registration form and payment must be completed no later than 3:00 p.m. on Friday, January 9, 2009.

5.      Please carefully consider your choices. Due to contract agreements with teachers, we are unable to give refunds or switch children to different classes once registration has been completed.

6.       When registration is complete, you will receive a confirmation letter via backpack mail.

7.       Please be aware of the specific dates of your childs classes.  Classes are not held on early dismissal days.

8.       Any cancelled class day will be made up at the end of the session.

9.       If your child has special needs, an allergy or other medical condition of which the Program Facilitator should be made aware, please send her a note directly via the After School Activities mailbox prior to the start of the program. In case of illness or injury, we are legally responsible for first aid only. It is school policy to notify parents when home care or immediate medical care is needed. We do not have access to school medical records, or to medications kept with the school nurse.

10.     If you have any special situations or concerns, please feel free to note them on the registration form. We will do our best to accommodate you.
